As a Business Owner/Entrepreneur, we have all said this statement one time or another on our journey "I am going back to work for someone, this is too HARD!!!"

Well I know I have. I probably say this every time I feel discouraged or when I have a slow week or even when I am comparing myself to others in the industry that I am in who I believe is better than I am...As Beauty-preneurs, there is no magic wand that will tell us if today will be profitable or even if this week we will meet our quota. We must learn to "PIVOT"...What is "PIVOT", you ask? Pivoting in your business means to shift your focus off of what's not happening and turn it on to what will happen. There is a saying that says there are different ways to skin a cat, well this applies to business as well. For example, as a hairstylist seasons will change and certain style won't be as popular. So learning a new skill or technique will help you in maintaining outside of those busy seasons. Finding different ways to substitute your income will reassure you that you can make it through. For example I am a Braider but I also do color & Blowouts, so in the summer months my braids are hot off the press but during the winter months it's a little slower. So pivoting to do more color/blowouts is how I supplement my income. Also wig making is more popular if you have that skill or technique.

Now I have had to work a part time job as a Entrepreneur but I am learning to do other things so I won't depend on that throughout my journey while building my business. It doesn't matter what industry your in we've all had to pivot a time or two (especially being a new business owner in the middle of a global pandemic). Starting out is not always easy but if you are being led by faith and if God is in the center of it all there is no way that you will fail.

Planning, Preparing, and Positioning yourself before you start also helps. There is no blueprint to Entrepreneurship but investing in coaches or mentors that are in the same industry your in will always help you on your journey. if your like me, you're learning things as you go.

I am going to be honest becoming a business owner was the best decision I have ever made. Although I face challenges sometimes, to become your own boss is worth every red cent. Even when I start doubting myself, there is always a ram in the bush. God shows up in the nick of time to reassure and reaffirm that I am exactly where I am suppose to be. If you are a new Beauty-prenuer/ Hairstylist, that needs a little guidance navigating the industry please feel free to connect with me...until next time...

XOXO, Dominique Ashley
